Athens

From the National Museum

We went to Piraeus for dinner but couldn't find any thing so we came back got off a stop before we normally did and ended up here and watched life go by.

Is it hot enough do you think,  10:00 PM or later, new shirt every day or rinse this one out and it is dry by morning

A night shot of the Parthenon from our hotel roof bar area

Had to come all the way to Athens for Pave' to discover she enjoyed Amstel the best

How many litres of wine does that hold again?

One might call this a bum view

such a happy face

Waitng for a Ravel concert on our anniversary

Note the earrings, all the way from Vienna, the are called Sissy Stars, unfortunately they are not the same quality of diamond that the originals are.  In fact they are not diamonds but they sure look great.

The concert which I was not supposed to take photos of, from Paris they were, fantastic accoustics

Photo of the illegal photo takes before we were asked to leave, good thing the concert was over

All I wanted was a Gyros but I had to settle for a panini and a beer.  This one goes with pave's Amstel photo.

Zeus' Temple, Acropolis in the background

Zeus' temple

some of the stonework from 2500 years ago(?)

The beach we went to on our anniversary, rent the umbrella and the lounge chair with the entrance fee to get in.

It was a great day for a celebration.

I guess GW Bush isn't liked everywhere.

Some of the workmanship

Another view of the temples remains, in fact I think this was all that was erected

The Acropolis

A  street restaurant that had many dishes which you chose from for a set price including wine and desert.

Another small church in the city centre at night

Different view of the church

One of the theatres below the Acropolis

The Parthenon, which is under renovations, has been for 4 years and probably will be for another 4 years,  really took away from the magestic splendour of the site

Where we heard the Ravel concert, view from the Acropolis

Parthenon detail.

You can't see but as we had this picture taken a group of Japanese students broke out their school (?) banner and were about to have a group shot with Athens in the background not he Parthenon.  Well I never saw so many fast moving Greeks in all my life, you would think they were capturing Al Capone or some other notorious figure.  Everybody up, away and no longer in a group, checking all the cameras for photos just taken, deletion of any not  suitable in the eyes of the guard.  I should have captured all that on film

The parthenon with an outstanding beauty in front
